Spaces in Document Names

Question

Is it possible to take the spaces out of individual document names appearing in a list/libraryso the‘%20’ doesn’t show up in the URL when you send the link to someone (and yet still have the name appear with spaces)?

Response:

Our “best practices recommendation” is to create document names without spaces (to maintain readability, use_underscores, or-dashes, OrCaseChange). However, we know that is not going to always happen. So to answer your question, URLs can’t contain spaces, so if the document name contains spaces, the document URL will include %20 in place of the spaces. That said, you can create a hyperlink in an email or document or website that cleans that up.

For example, the following all link to a document that has spaces in its name:

1.
